The Bronze course is aimed at riders with a Learner’s licence and riders on their Restricted Class 6 (motorcycle) licence who are riding LAMS-approved motorbikes. The course takes riders on local roads, predominantly in an urban setting although some higher speed roads may be encountered. This training course specifically focuses on NZTA’s Competency Based Training Assessment (CBTA) competencies and tasks, supporting riders to pass the Class 6 CBTA Restricted or Full licence assessment.
The Bronze eight hour course covers off key riding competencies. An example of one of these is motorcycle control.
There are four aspects to controlling a motorcycle:
- speed management
During this section of the course you’ll practice adopting and maintaining the right position on the road at all times (relative to the riding task and hazards present), maintaining progress in traffic flow (keeping up with traffic, accelerating, overtaking if have to), gear selection for road speed, braking, stopping plus more.
Course Duration: 8 Hours
$20 Inc GST.
The Silver course is designed to assist with taking restricted riders to their full licence as well as offering ‘returning riders’ a course which will focus on both urban riding and riding in more challenging, open-road environments at higher, open-road speeds.
Gives a taste of advanced riding and embeds road craft principles into rider training. This course supports riders to pass the Class 6 CBTA full licence assessment.
Riding curves is one aspect of riding covered during the eight hour Silver training course.
You will cover entry, apex and exit of corners, vanishing points and avoiding obstacles, tyre grip and bikes’ capabilities. You will spend time travelling round curves and bends practicing looking in the intended direction of travel, bodyweight and stability and hazard identification.
Course Duration: 8 Hours
$50 Inc GST
The Gold course has the fundamental approach of the Ride Forever Syllabus, while offering a higher skill level. It includes more technical aspects of riding such as trail braking and counter-steering. It allows for a more focussed approach to training by allowing a club/rider to build their own course content (menu of training tasks).
This course allows for a focussed approach to be taken to ensure specific riding styles can be incorporated. (e.g. Cruiser vs Sport bike can have very different approaches to specific tasks). More flexible in what can be on offer rather than a specific syllabus each time.
The Gold training course is made up from a flexible programme of content modules. The trainers will select the modules that best suit the riding interests of the trainees and which will support them to develop specific, advanced riding skills. Some of the modules include:
- Group and longer rides
- Riding in formation
- Riding with a pillon
- Riding with loads
- Towing a load
- Advanced cornering
- Braking into a curve
