The basic handling skills test is the first step in your roadcraft

YOUR JOURNEY STARTS HERE

A motorcycle rider wearing a white helmet and black jacket on a red motorcycle is being instructed by a man in an orange safety vest at a motorcycle skills course, with traffic cones and scattered tennis balls on the asphalt.

It is designed to fit in with the graduated licensing system to enable the novice rider to develop their skills in a safe environment prior to applying for the NZTA Motorcycle Leaner licence (Class 6L) and taking the Motorcycle theory test.

This test is provided as a first step in motorcycling and is aimed at familiarising the rider with the techniques required to start, stop and control a motorcycle.

A man in an orange safety vest shaking hands with a woman in a black jacket, both smiling, outdoors in a parking lot, with cars in the background. The woman is holding a paper and standing next to a red scooter.

On successful completion of the test, the rider is then presented with a certificate that can be used as part of the process to gain a learner licence.
